SCFBP Coaches Hot Seat – 2013 Edition

In this blog we will take a look at a few coaches that we view as being in danger of losing their job, be it due to poor performance on the field, or in at least one case, ostracizing oneself from an entire fanbase.  Starting off our list is….

Not only has this imbecile overseen 17 straight Big Ten losses for the illini, but he has also had a comedy of errors on the sideline as well.  Last season he was caught chewing tobacco on the sideline (pictured above), which is a NCAA violation, not to mention an embarrassment to the university. Illinois has repeatedly been pantsed by opponents over the past two years, losing by an average score of 39-13.  I haven’t seen a less disciplined team over the past five years – Illinois is just bad right now.  Want an example?

NUT SHOT!

2.)

Bo Pelini is, by my judgement, a pretty good football coach.  Even so, his win total has not been outstanding, though certainly not bad either:

Overall 54–22
Bowls 3–3

No, what has really hurt Pelini is his interaction with the Cornhusker fanbase.  Many have always felt that Pelini had one foot out the door since he got to Nebraska, and a tape that was secretely recorded and released earlier this year seemed to confirm that somewhat when Pelini was talking about “seeing how the fans felt when he left” following a huge win over Ohio State from a few seasons ago.  That, coupled with a lack of Big Ten championships, has left the faithful a bit restless in Nebraska.

Nebraska fans may be ready to tell Ol’ Bo happy hollidays sooner rather than later

And last but not least (first place, in fact, in the lunch line)

Charlie Wies has fielded teams that are just flat out bad.  In his time at Kansas, he is just 3-16, with no signs of improvement on the horizon.  There is little hope that he will turn it around at Kansas, and we will be a bit surprised if he survives into next season.  Weis is a terrific offensive coordinator, and he will be unemployed for about five minutes if/when he gets fired, but as a head coach he has just not gotten it done.

SCFP Recruiting Round-Up: Part II

If you read our first recruiting update for the year, then you may remember that we predicted that we predicted that Cameron Robinson would commit to the Alabama Crimson Tide in time, and we were right (http://sullyscollegefootballpage.com/wordpress/index.php/2013/07/recruiting-round-up-the-nations-five-best-and-where-they-may-be-headed/)

So far, that makes us 1/1, but as anyone who follows recruiting undoubtedly knows, things can change in a hurry.  With that in mind, we will revisit the other four remaining prospects left from our first round-up, and then introduce our next best five available in this one!  So without further adieu, here we go.

Leonard Fournette

What we originally said:

Leonard Fournette (New Orleans, LA) – RB: Fournette is widely regarded as the nations best RB, and best over-all player, and with good reason.  A bruising tailback, Fournette has drawn comparisons to Vikings great Adrian Petersen since the beginning of his sophomore year in high school.  Fournette exhibits a rare combination of power, balance and speed, which has programs from across the nation seeking his services.  Having said that, many feel that this recruitment will ultimately come down to Alabama and LSU, though Fournette has expressed his wishes to take all five of his official recruiting visits.  So far, at least three of those visits have been decided, with Alabama, LSU, and Notre Dame being slotted to have a shot at the prolific RB.  With that in mind, Sullyscollegefootballpage.com does predict that Fournette will stay south and sign with LSU.  LSU is a little light at RB right now, believe it or not, as they did not even take a RB in last years recruiting cycle.  Given their obvious need at the position, and the close proximity between Fournette and LSU, it is difficult to imagine another conclusion to this battle.”

What we say now?

Basically the same thing.  This kid is, in all likelihood, going to end up at LSU.  The only difference between now and then is that we are even more confident of that likelihood becoming a reality.

Prediction: LSU (90% confident)

Highlights –> Fournette JR Highlights

JuJu Smith

What we said then:

Juju Smith (Long Beach, CA) – FS / WR: Smith is one of the most talented safety prospects in recent memory, and due to the struggles of SC in recent years, the door has been opened for other programs to get in on this race.  Long Beach is normally an SC pipeline, but Smith has expressed very little interest in SC, and will almost certainly not sign there.  This race could very well come down to Alabama and Notre Dame, with schools like Michigan and UCLA having an outside shot.  In the end, California kids do not often venture south, and for that reason, Notre Dame is probably sitting in the strongest position.  They were the first official visit that the talented safety prospect set up, and in the end, they are going to have the best shot to sign Mr. Smith.

What we say now?

Oregon has emerged as a player for Juju Smith, and that will likely be the case throughout his recruitment.  Meanwhile, SC has continued to fade with Smith, and are basically out of the race currently.  However, with a home run hire (HC Lane Kiffin was fired a few weeks ago), perhaps that door could be reopened in the future.  Even so, as was likely the case when this article was first published, if JuJu Smith had to sign today, ND would probably be pretty happy.  It seems clear that they are in the strongest position to sign Mr. Smith, and the official visit that he took to South Bend last week probably strengthened that reality even further.  JuJu Smith plans to announce that the UA All-American game on ESPN.

Prediction: Notre Dame (80% confident)

Highlights –> John (Juju) Smith Highlights

Da’Shawn Hand

What we said then:

Da’Shawn Hand (Woodbridge, VA) – DE: One of the nations premier defensive lineman prospects, if not thee best, Hand has a long list of suitors seeking his services.  However, separating from that pack is Michigan, Florida and Alabama, who appear to be in a dead heat in this race.  However, given that Hand has spent time on the campus of Michigan, and that they have been on top of his list for his entire recruitment, it is easy to envision him ending up signing with them. Hoke has done a great job recruiting him, and in all practicality, Michigan is probably the slight favorite here.

What we say now?

Still pretty sure that this kid is going to Michigan.  There has not really been any big change in his recruitment, honestly.

Prediction: Michigan (85% confident)

Highlights –> Da\’Shawn Hand Highlights

Lorenzo Carter’

What we said then:

Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, GA) – DE/LB: Carter is one of the nations more versatile and intriguing prospects, as he is being recruited by different programs to play both linebacker and defensive end. Standing at 6-5, 235 pounds, Carter has the prototypical frame that college coaches across the nation scour the country for.  He could easily develop himself into the 270-280 lb range and still maintain his speed under the right strength and conditioning program, and in truth, is probably best suited for a 3-4 defense, though he could also excel in a 4-3.  As of now, teams like Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Notre Dame are in the mix, as each of the aforementioned programs have had Mr. Carter on campus.  With that being said, Florida has separated themselves from this pack as his leader, though this race is far from over.  Mr. Carter will likely take each of his five official visits, and where he ends up is anyone’s guess.  However, many predict that Carter will stay south, and true to that tune, if this recruitment were to end today, it would be Florida.

What we say now?

This recruitment has shifted more than any other from our first recruiting round-up because, quite frankly, Florida has stunk this year.  Head coach Will Muschamp is fast approaching the hot-seat, as he got the dreaded vote of confidence from Florida AD Jeremey Foley just last week.  Given Florida’s schedule the rest of the way, it is going to be difficult for them to improve upon their already pedestrian record of 4-3.  In fact, chances are the Florida will end the season at 6-6, as they still must face Georgia, South Carolina and Florida State, all of which will prove to be difficult tasks for the beat-up Gator squad.  Currently, Alabama and Georgia seem to be in better shape for Carter than Florida is.

Prediction: Alabama (60% confident)

Highlights –> Lorenzo Carter Highlights

The Next Best five:

Matthew Elam (Elizabethtown, KY) – DT

Elam is a massive nose tackle, standing at 6-6 and weighing 350 lbs, and he is arguably the most coveted defensive tackle in the nation, particularly for teams running a 3-4 scheme.  His recruitment will almost certainly come down to the bitter end, with teams like Alabama and Notre Dame fighting it out for his services along with hometown Kentucky.  It is difficult to say where Mr. Elam will end up due to the fact that he does not often speak to the media, but who exactly he is considering is at least somewhat clear.  Elam will visit Kentucky late in the year, and as recently as last week, he officially visited the Fight Irish for their contest against SC, which according to all reports, went very well.  With that in mind, we will give ND the slight edge here, but that could change in a hurry with Alabama, Louisville, Ohio State and Kentucky breathing down ND’s throat.

Prediction: Notre Dame (35% confident)

Highlights –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4daoFNFW7c

Speedy Noil (New Orleans, LA) – WR

Speedy Noil is an absolutely electic player, and without question one of the most exciting prospects left on the board.  At 5’11”, Noil projects as a slot WR, and given his tremendous speed, he will fit in perfectly there.  His recruitment, while certainly not over, seems like a two horse race between Texas A&M and LSU, with LSU having a clear advantage.  We would be shocked if Noil went anywhere else but LSU, as they typically do a terrific job of defending their home territory, but man would it be exciting to see him in that Texas A&M offense.

Prediction: LSU (85% Confident)

Highlights –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIRsSTVawVA

Tony Brown (Beaumont, TX) – CB

Tony Brown is considered by some to be the nations best CB prospect, and given his combination of legit 4.4 speed and a height of 6-1, it is easy to see why.  Teams like Texas, Alabama, Ohio State and Florida State are in hot persuit of Mr. Brown.  However, the team that seems to be in the strongest position for his services is yet again LSU, who has seemingly emerged as the clear favorite for Mr. Brown over the past few months.  Anything can happen between now and signing day, but if this recruitment ended today, it would almost certainly be LSU.

Prediction: LSU (80% confident)

Highlights –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY9-v61hkHM

Marlon Humphrey (Birmingham, AL) – CB

Marlon Humprey is a legacy recruit for Alabama, as he is the son of a former Alabaman All-American running back Bobby Humphrey.  With that in mind, Alabama obviously figures heavily into the recruitment of Marlon Humphrey, and from the onset of his recruitment, they have been the clear favorite.  Florida State and Mississippi State will get a look from Humphrey, but it would be a major upset if he didn’t end up at Alabama.

Prediction: Alabama (95% confident)

Highlights –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU2uEqnnAPI

Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, GA) – LB

McMillan is one of the nations best LB prospects, and he has been heavily recruited by nearly every major program in the country.  Such programs include Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Florida and Ohio State.  McMillan is a kid that probably won’t decide until signing day, but from the very beginning of his recruitment, the one team that has been repeatedly mentioned is Ohio State, and still today that holds true.  In all likelihood, that is where he will end up, though some of his late November visits may well change that, though I have my doubts.  If that holds true, Ohio State will end up with its second very high profile recruit from the state of Georgia in as many years.

Prediction: Ohio State (75% confident)

SEC Review / Preview weeks 8 & 9

SEC Review

Week 8(22)Florida-17 @ (14)Missouri-36

Missouri has proved for two weeks in a row now that they are one of the top dogs in the country.  Coming off the big upset at Georgia, they rushed into this one and pounded the Gators 36-17!  The Tigers defense was spectacular only allowing 151 yards and forced 3 turnovers!  Missouri RB Henry Josey rushed for 136 yards on 18 carries with 1 TD.

(24)Auburn-45 @ (7)Texas A&M-41

The Auburn Tigers came into this game as the underdog, but they never lost hope.  They orchestrated a great comeback after being down by 10 in the 4th Quarter.  Although Johnny Manziel had one of his best games throwing for 454 yards on 28/38 completions with 4 TDs and 2 INTs, he still couldn’t lead his team to victory.  The Tigers running game was just too much for the A&M defense.
(P.S. A&M WR Mike Evans received for 287 yards on 11 receptions with 4 TDs!)

(6)LSU-24 @ Ole Miss-27

The Ole Miss defense held one of the countries to 0 points in the 1st half!  This was just an average game for LSU, who looked to blast unranked LSU, but just got outmatched and could not overcome their mistakes in the 1st half.

SEC Preview – Week 9

 Tennessee @ (1)Alabama

Tennessee has been a big Cinderella in the SEC this year, beating many good opponents, or at least coming close.  Alabama hasn’t had much competition this year, and finally face a stable opponent.  Alabama’s defense has looked superior to all else this year.  Don’t expect a blowout, but expect a game closer than you thought it would be.  Take Alabama by 15 at home against the Volunteers, 35-20.

(21)South Carolina @ (5)Missouri

South Carolina is not looking very strong coming off a few close wins to not so very good teams, and lost to unranked opponent Tennessee.  Meanwhile on the other side, red-hot Missouri looks like one of the countries best.  Beating some of the best in the country, they are so far undefeated.  Expect the Tigers to have an easy win over the Gamecocks, 41-13.

Sully’s CFP: Six Pack of Winners; Week Nine

Stanford -3.5 @ Oregon State:  Stanford is comming off a big win against UCLA and their loss to Utah is meaningless if they win out in the North Division. OSU has won 6 in a row, since dropping their opener to Eastern Washington. Mike Riley’s Team has played well, but against the physical nature of the Cardinal, they are in over their heads this week! Sully’s CFP says: take the Cardinal and give the Beavers the points!

Texas @ TCU O/U 51.5:  TCU has covered the under several times this year, they run the ball & the clock and have held their opponents to 20 or less in 5 of their of their 7 games! That coupled with their issues at QB, translates to an inability to score… the Frogs have scored under 28 in 5 of theis seven games. Sully’s CFP says: take the under and stop for coffee on the way to the bank!

Baylor @ Kansas: Baylor is a scoring machine, 69 or more in 5 of their 6 games, while a 2 & 4 Kansas, gave up 56 to Texas Tech, a poor man’s version of the Bears offensive pace. That said, Kansas can score … 19 against Oklahoma last week! Sully’s CFP says: take the over @ 66.5 and enjoy the fire works!

ND -20  @ Air Force: Tommy Rees, the Irish QB, will play this week, he was injured in the SC game and the Domers offense went south without his services. With Rees playing, the Irish offense should roll up the points against a hapless Falcon defense. AF enters the game with 1-6 record and have surrendered 42 or more points in 4 of their seven games. They compound their defensive problems by having scored 20 or less in 4 of their 7 contests. Sully’s CFP says: take ND and give AF the points!

FAU @ Auburn: The Tigers are comming off a huge win over Texas A&M and feature one of the best running attacks in the country. The Owls come into the game with a 2-5 mark and clearly are facing the most talented team they have played this year. While Florida Atlantic will not be able to contain Auburn’s powerful running attack, they can score …. 35 & 37 in two of their games this year. Sully’s CFP says: take the over at 50 … Auburn may cover that by themselves!

Penn State @ Ohio State: The over in this game is 56.5, PSU has not scored less than 23 points in any game this year and just put a 44 spot on Michigan. Meanwhile, OSU has not scored less than 34 in any of their 7 games this year & 40 or more in five of the battles. You do the math!! Sully’s CFP says: take the over & plan your next vacation!

SUlly’s CFP is currently 24-24

ACC Game of the Week / Well sort of…

AMB is a Blogger for Sully’s CFP

Big Upsets Week 8

(5) Florida State 51 – (3) Clemson 14

MVP: “Famous” Jameis Winston, QB Florida State

Although I did predict Florida State to defeat Clemson in possibly a high-scoring, shootout type of game, I did not by any means expect the Seminoles to wrap up the game by halfway through the 3rd quarter!  Florida State’s redshirt freshman QB Jameis Winston made life miserable for the Tigers’ defense; torching them for 444 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air and accounted for one short score on the ground.  Besides from Winston’s performance Saturday night that made him look beyond his years, the story of the game was Clemson QB Tajh Boyd’s poor night at home.  Boyd only went 17-37 for 156 yards, a lonely touchdown pass and 2 interceptions; also accounting for a fumble in the first quarter which was returned for a touchdown, putting FSU up 17-0 on the #3 team in the country.  In this blowout game, the final nail in the coffin came in the early 4th quarter.  With the Seminoles backed up on their own goal line, the Tigers’ defense let “Famous Jameis” throw a short lob pass to TE Nick O’Leary that went for 94 yards before finally being tacked around the Clemson 5 yard line.  O’Leary is also the grandson of golfing legend Jack Nicklaus; showing a lot more running talent than his grandpa could ever display.  (But then again, who couldn’t gash the Tigers’ defense last Saturday night?)  Overall, this game provided Jameis Winston with a legit Heisman moment to show off when he is voted in as this year’s Heisman Trophy winner.  (Yes, Jameis Winston will win the Heisman Trophy this year; you heard it hear first!)

ACC Showdown: Florida State @ Clemson

AMB is a Blogger on Sully’s

Game of the Week

(5) Florida State @ (3) Clemson

In the most anticipated game of the week/month/ and year to date, Jameis Winston and the Florida State Seminoles will take on Tajh Boyd and the Clemson Tigers.  Both of these undefeated teams have very high powered offenses (FSU 4th in the country @ 549 YPG while Clemson is 13th @ 515 YPG) , with both quarterbacks accumulating about 1,500 yards and 15 touchdowns so far this season.  One thing to watch for in this game is how well the redshirt freshman QB Winston can perform under hostile conditions in Death Valley Saturday night.  This will be one of the first real tests for Winston; and if he can get a win at Clemson, could possibly solidify his position as a Heisman hopeful.  Boyd, on the other hand, will look to get a home win vs. Florida State in hopes of keeping the Tigers in a position to possibly be the first non-SEC team in 8 years to win the BCS National Championship Game.  Clemson is not the only team here with title hopes though; if the Seminoles can knock off the #3 team in the country, they would definitely be in the National Championship picture.

PAC 12 Showdown: UCLA @ Stanford

AMB is a Blogger on Sully’s CFP

(13) Stanford @ (9) UCLA

Only a week after losing an unsuspected heartbreaker to the Utah Utes 27-21, the Stanford Cardinal will have to travel to the Rose Bowl to take on QB Brett Hundley and the undefeated UCLA Bruins.  This will definitely be a difficult task for the Cardinal to rebound after that kind of loss, considering it knocked them from the ranks of the unbeaten and sent QB Kevin Hogan home with his first-ever loss as a starting quarterback.  The Bruins, on the other hand, will need to try and win this game to keep their hold on first place in the PAC-12 South and set up a potential PAC-12 Championship showdown with (2) Oregon.  The Bruins are led by Hundley, who has thrown for over 1,400 yards this season, along with 12 touchdown passes.  Their rushing attack stars RB Jordan James, who is averaging over 6 yards per carry, but most of their offense stems from the passing attack.  The Cardinal, on the other hand, have a very stingy defense, and a revamped passing attack from a year ago; which instead of relying on tight ends for their receiving, now rely on stellar WR Ty Montgomery, who has 31 receptions for 514 yards and 5 touchdowns.  Kevin Hogan, along with Montgomery, will have to have a very good game in order for the Cardinal to not drop two straight conference games and get back into the PAC-12 Championship picture to defend their conference title.

Sully’s CFP: Six Pack of Winners; Week Eight

Wisconsin -10 @ Illinois:  The Illini are 97th in rush defense, giving up just under 200 YPG, while the Badgers are 5th in the country in rushing offense, averaging 298 YPG. Wisconsin Offense will run all over the Illinois defense! Further, Jared Abbrederis is now in for Saturday’s Game, which adds to the Illini woes, as the Badgers playaction is, with Abbrederis playing, greatly enhanced!  Sully’s CFP Says: take the Badgers and give the Fighting Illini the 10!

USC @ ND -2.5: One common opponent in Arizona State, SC lost, 62-41 @ Sun Devil Stadium, while the Irish beat ASU, 37-34 @ Cowboy Stadium! Sully’s CFP says take the Irish @ home and give the Beach Boys the 2.5!

Florida -3 @ Missouri: This game would have a completely different feel if James Franklin (Missouri’s QB) was playing … he is not … out for season … shoulder! The Tigers simply are not 6-0 without his services, especially given a top level SEC defense, like the one they will face on Saturday, @ home vs Florida! Sully’s CFP says take the Gators and give the Tigers the points!

Iowa @ Ohio State -16:  Iowa comes into this game @ 4-2 and on the heals of a disappointing performance defensively against Michigan State, a 26-14 loss at home. OSU is undefeated @ 6-0  & coming off a bye week and consecutive wins over Wisconsin, 31-24 @ home & Northwestern, 40-30 in Evanston. Sully’s CFP says: Take the Bucks @ Home and give the Hawks the points!

TCU @ Oklahoma State Over/ Under 52.5: TCU has held themselves and their opponents to the under the last two times we have had them in the “Six Pack of Winners” … absolutely sure of that, …  as we advised are readers to take the Over. Not this time! Sully’s CFP Says: Take the under @ 52.5 and stop for Ice Cream or a Beer on the way to the Bank!

Iowa State @ Baylor-30.5:  Baylor enters the game with, a somewhat surprising, 5-0 mark and a ton of points being scored in their wins (69, 70,70, & 72) these points were scored respectively against: Wofford, Buffalo, ULM, & West Virginia. Last week they played against Kansas State, in Little Manhattan and were “held” to 35 … a 35-25 win. Iowa State lost to Texas, 31-30 & Texas Tech, Like Baylor an up tempo team, 42-35 @ Tech’s  Jones AT&T Stadium. Sully’s CFP Says: 30.5 is too many, we think … way to many … Take ISU, the points, & plan your next vacation!

Sully’s CFP is 21-21 VS the Spread

SEC Wrap up from week 6

TJL is a Blogger for Sully’s CFP

SEC In Review

(6) Georgia-34 @ Tennessee-31

Sully’s CFP was looking forward to this game all week.  We expected Tennessee to be energized in front of a 100,000 plus crowd and a battle tested Georgia to step up in a hostile environment.  It all happened and more ….. A thriller from start to finish!  Georgia ran the ball effectively, 238 yards, a 6.4 yards per carry, & a touchdown.  Aaron Murray was terrific & hopefully has put to rest some unfair labels he has had to deal with these past years!.  In overtime, Tennessee looked to take the lead, but as RB Alton Howard dove for the endzone, he lost the ball, which resulted in a touchback.  Georgia then capped off the game with a 42-yard field goal by Marshall Morgan.

(24)Ole Miss-22 @ Auburn-30

Somebody check the sheets, Sully’s CFP called for an upset!  The Tigers pounded the Rebels defense with their running game.  Led by their QB, Nick Marshall, who rushed for 140 yards on 14 carries … translated to  10 yards per carry!  These great rushing stats also came along with 2 rushing TDs as The Tigers pulled of the upset at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Arkansas-10 @ (18)Florida-30

This was a great defensive effort by Florida, only allowing 275 yards, while forcing 2 turnovers.  The Gators QB Tyler Murphy had a very efficient game going 16/22 for 240 yards and 3 TDs.

(10)LSU-59 @ Mississippi St-26

LSU came into Starkville with an attitude after their loss last week against Georgia. Their choices were, …  step up or sit down, … clearly they stepped up! They completely shut out Mississippi State in the second half, while Zach Mettenberger had a great game, completing 25/29, for 340 yards, & 2 TDs!

Georgia St-3 @ (1)Alabama-45

Nothing much to say here, as Alabama came in as the heavy favorite and, as expected, annihilated Georgia State.  The Panthers stumbled into Tuscaloosa and got hammered by the Tide’s defense, managing only 15 rushing yards!

Posted in SULLY'S cfp |

Sully’s CFP: Six Pack of Winners; Week Seven

Missouri @ Georgia -9.5: Georgia is coming off two tough games, LSU, 44-41 & Tennessee, 34-31, in OT. The Dawgs won both games, but at a high cost; wide receivers Michael Bennett (Ortoscopic Surgery … knee .. may or may not return later this season) & Justin Scott-Wesley (out for season… knee), running back, Keith Marshall (out for season… knee). This coupled with an earlier … season ending injury to WR, Malcolm Mitchell … in any scenario, all of these players are out for this week’s Missouri game. As if this is not enough, All-American RB, Todd Gurley, is questionable for Saturday game in Athens. Meanwhile, the Tiger head for Samford Stadium with a perfect 5 & 0 slate, including an impressive road win at Vanderbilt, 51-28. All that said, this Bulldog team is a battle tested unit that will rally around their QB, Aaron Murray, @ home, come game time on Saturday!  Simply stated, the Tigers have not played in an environment like they will be in @ Samford Stadium. Ninty thousand plus wild Dawgs Fans whose wounded team will rally around their their circumstances and play their best game of the year!  Sully’s CFP says: take the Dawgs and give the Tigers the 9.5!

Florida @ LSU -7: Last year, Florida susprised, if not shocked, the college football world with their, 14-6, win in Gainsville over LSU. This is a great game, both teams have been ranked in their last nine meetings and in the last five, the Gators have won three, but only once in Tiger Stadium. LSU is 2-1 in the SEC and really cannot afford another loss … win out and they will play for the conference championship and a berth in the BCS National Championship Game. QB, Zach Mettenberger & RB, Jeremy Hill are off to terrific starts and Baton Rouge will be rocking Saturday afternoon! Sully’s CFP says: Take the Tigers & give the Gators the 7!

Stanford -8 @ Utah: Stanford rolls into Salt Lake City with an unblemished 5 and 0 mark with impressive wins over two undefeated teams at the time they met! Arizona State was 2-0 when they battled in Stanford Stadium, a 42-28 Cardinal victory. Washington was 4-0 when they played last week, again, in Stanford’s House, with the result being Stanford 31 Washington 28! These teams last played in 1996, a 17-10 Ute win, thus their first PAC 12 Meeting! Utah is 3-2 overall & 0-2 in PAC 12 play, losing to Oregon State, 51-48, in OT & 34-27 to UCLA. Both of these losses were, like Saturday’s game, @ home!  The Utes have not been able to defend their home turf against weaker opponents than who they will line up against on this week’s game day! Sully’s CFP says: Give the Utes the 8 and go with the Cardinal!

Boise State -7 @ Utah State: These teams were in the WAC until Boise State left the conference to join the Mountain West in 2011, they were also in the Big West Conference together, before their time in the WAC. The Broncos beat the Aggies in 08, 49-14, in 09, 52-21 & in 010, 50-14. USU comes into the game with a 3 & 3 mark, having beat, Air Force, 52-20, Weber State, 70-6, & San Jose State, 40-12. The Aggies have lost @ Utah, 30-27, at USC, 17-14, & to BYU @ home, 31-14. Boise is a susprising, to some, 3-2, having lost to Washington, 38-6 & Fresno State, 41 to 40! They have one common opponent, Air Force, Utah State beat the Fly Boys, 52-20, while BSU beat AF, 42-20! Boise started the season with 9 returning starters and a learning curve was expected, while Utah State had 14 returnees for the 2013 season. The Aggies experience advantage has evaperated as we enter week seven! Sully’s College Footbakk Page predicted these early losses to Washington & Fresno and also believed that, as Petersen’s team gained playing time, they would look a lot like his other teams, … last week they beat Southern Miss, 60-7!  Sully’s CFP says: Take BSU and give USU the 7 points!

Texas A&M -6.5 vs Ole Miss: Two wards are the difference in this game, Johnny & Manzel. Ole Miss is talented, but young, while A&M is led by the nation’s best player, at a position, QB, where he handles the ball on every offensive play. Ole Miss’ defensive youth is at risk on every snap. The Aggies enter the Rebels Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with a 4-1 record, falling to only the nation’s #1 team, Alabama, 49-42!  Ole Miss is happy to be out of the State of Alabama, having lost to Bama, 25-0 & Auburn 30-22, the past two weeks at their respective Alabama arenas. Last year Ole Miss played A&M close, 30-27, @ home and do to a quirk in the schedule, they face A&M in Oxford again this year. Sully’s CFP says: it won’t matter, A&M covers the 6.5

Michigan -3 @ Penn State: Penn State from a structural standpoint, is the best FCS team in the country. The Nittant Lions are down to 67 scholarship players on their roster, an FCS program is limited by structure to 63 while a BCS program at full strength is allowed to carry 85 on full rides. These low numbers seem to be having an effect, evidenced by their first every loss to Indiana, 44-24 last weekend. O’Brien has done an excellent job with the X’s & O’s, but he clearly lacks the # of Jimmy’s & Joe’s needed to compete at this level! On the other hand, Michigan seems to have emerged from their sleep walk wins over Akron, 28-24 & U-Conn 24-21, by pounding Minnesota, 42-13. PSU has won 3 in a row in this series, 08, 46-17; 09, 35-10; & 010, 41-31,  The teams have not met in the past two years! These losses from 08 through 010 were during the Rich Rod year’s, when the Wolverines played little to no defense! Sully’s CFP says: Michigans win and covers!

Sully’s CFP is 19 -17 vs the spread! 4-2 Last Week!
