ESPN, 247 Sports, & Rivals / Four Year Recruiting Composite
The recruiting chart presented below is a 4 year composit of ESPN's, 247's, & Rivals' respective scoring systems. The recruiting years used were 2020 through 2023. We took each site and calculated a 4 year team average specific to that site's criteria. So the number listed under ESPN's ranking system was arrived at independently of Rivals' or 247's process. The number listed in the composite column is the average rank a team earned on the 3 different sites over a 4 year period Let's use Texas A&M class rank on ESPN's recruiting page as an example of how these scores very from site to site. During that time frame (2020 - 2023) A&M's average rank on ESPN was 6.5. They were tied for 4th with LSU, while the Aggies ranked 9th (10.3) on 247 Sports and were alone @ 4th best in the country on Rivals, 6.2 As one might suspect, Alabama, UGA, & Ohio State were respectifully,1,2,& 3 on all three sites (A&M & LSU were already mentioned), with Clemson, Texas, OU, ND, & Oregon rounder out the composite Top Ten! That said, do not overlook/forget about the Tranfer Portal, as it can signicantly impact a roster & a season's result. Michigan State was 2-5 in 2020 & then went 11-3 in 2021.The Spartans had only the 42nd ranked recruited class, on ESPN, for the 2021 season, however, they brought in 20 plus transfers and it changed everything ... 2-5 to 11-3!.
Please note, the teams listed below are Power 5 Conference teams only, with Army & ND added into the count! A total of 67 Teams are assessed! Futrher, with UCF, Cincinnati, & Houston moving from the American Athletic Conference (AAC), along with BYU, to the B-12, for the 2023 season! As a result of these three additions, we are are now ranking 70 of the 134 FBS Programs!
As you assess your team's shot at a bowl game, division/conference title, and/or a CFP berth in 2023, be mindful of four elements; 1) Returning starters & depth, 2) Nonconference opponents & where the game will be played, 3) Your team's divisional crossover games along with dates inside the division, and where these games will be played, home or away, as the venue, can and often is critical to the outcome, & 4) How your recruiring class & transfer portal will or may inpact your 2023 season!!
