Big Ten Best & Worst Games of Week 2

Best Game: Central Florida @ Ohio State is one of many interesting games this week in the Big Ten ….. Wisconsin @ Oregon State, Illinois @ Arizona State, Iowa State @ Iowa, Vanderbilt @ Northwestern, Air Force @ Michigan, Nebraska @ UCLA, Penn State @ Virginia, & Purdue @ ND. The Big Ten is taking on 7 BCS teams and two very good FBS clubs. I have surprised myself by identifying the best game as involving a team (Central Florida from C-USA)  which does not represent an AQ Conference. OSU is 3-7 against teams from Florida and has lost these 7 games by an average of 15 points. Last week the Buckeyes hammered a MAC team, Miami of Ohio, 56-10, had over 500 yards of total offense, and held Miami to -1 yard rushing. Meanwhile UCF was pouncing another MAC team, Akron, 56-14 and forcing 4 turnovers. Urban Meyer is well aware of UCF’s talent level and that the Knights are picked to win both C-USA East Division and the league championship Game on December 1!

Worst Game: Minnesota is taking on New Hampshire and I have no idea why the Golden Gophers keep scheduling FCS teams ….. here is a brief history: 1) 2007 lost to North Dakota State 27-21, 2) in 08 beat Montana State 35-23, 3) in 09 beat South Dakota 16-13, 4) in 2010 Lost to South Dakota 41-38, and 5) 2011 Lost to North Dakota State 37-24. You got it … Minnesota is 2-3 vs FCS teams… These are the teams you give a check inexchange for a win…..  Not Minnesota… they should schedule 85 scholarship teams from the WAC, MAC, C-USA… but not FCS programs… These results are humbling and do not assist the growth of the program ….. it is bad enough when you struggle to win ….  let alone get beat! These games are the ulitmate in the everything to lose and nothing to gain scernio. I am fearful for Minnesota and their Coach Jerry Kill re: the potential result of this game with a CAA power …. New Hampshire
