Sully's Big Blog! Commentary on College Football, Weekly Games, And Strange Statistics!

The Best Conference Games(One Non-Conference Tilt) in Week 14!

The AAC (American Athletic Conference): Tulsa 5-0 / 5-1 @ Navy 3-3 / 3-5; TV: 2:30 / ESPN 2; Favorite: Tulsa -10: This game is the gateway to next week’s showdown in Tulsa, @ H.A. Chapman Stadium, between unbeaten Cincinnati Bearcats 6-0 / 8-0 and the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes 5-0 /5-1! If Tulsa handles Navy this week, as expected, then the game on the 12th between, Cincy & Tulsa, will match two 6-0 teams in the AAC. In fact, these same teams (Tulsa & Cincinnati) are set play on the 19th for the conference crown.

ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) Clemson 7-1 / 8-1 @ Virginia Tech 4-4 / 4-5; TV: 6:30 / ABC; Favorite: Clemson -21.5. A win by Clemson and the ACC Championship Game is set between ND & Clemson @ Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC. However, If V-Tech finds away and beats Clemson, then Miami, if they are able to win their last 2 games at home, vs Duke on the 5th and UNC on the 12th, would take on the Irish!

Big-12: West Virginia 4-3 / 5-3 @ Iowa State 7-1 / 7-2: TV: 2:30 / ESPN; Favorite: ISU -7. A win here and the Cyclones will have played their way into the B-12 Championship Game! A huge deal for the Cyclones, who have never won a B-12 Championship, in fact, ISU never won a championship in their previous conference, the Big Eight! For this program, the stakes have never been higher!

Big Ten: Ohio State 4-0 @ Michigan State 2-3; TV: 11:00 / ABC; Favorite: OSU -21.5. For the 1st time in college football history it is as important that game be played as to who wins the game! Ohio State will be ineligible for the B-10 Championship Game if they do not play a minimum of 6 games. The Bucks are sitting at 4 and have 2 games remaining. If either game is lost to Covid, Ohio State is out of the conference title race! If they get the Michigan State game in and win it, that leaves the 6th game, at home, vs Michigan.

It was mentioned on the College Football Selection Show, aired on ESPN, that there are rumors ‘out there’ that Michigan would fake Covid results to sideline the Bucks’ chances to play for the B-10 title! Let me be clear, the Wolverines would never do that and shame on those who suggest that they would; more conspiracy crap!!! Look it, the Wolves have won more games than any other college football program and have led college football in attendance, ever year, save one, since 1978! Like Ohio State & others, Michigan is a proud program. They are not going to use a national health crisis, a pandemic, that has a relation to or is directly responsible for the death of over 200,000 Americans, to avoid playing a frigging football game…. C’mon man, we all need to back to earth!

C-USA (Conference USA): UAB 2-1/ 4-3 @ Middle Tennessee 2-4 / 2-6; TV: 1:30 / ESPN 3; Favorite: UAB -11; C-USA, in terms of games played within the league, is all over the place. For instance, UAB (University of Alabama @ Birmingham) has played 3 conference games & 4 Non-conference for a total of 7 while UTSA (University of Texas @ San Antonia) has played 7 in the league and 11 overall in 2020. UTSA is done with their 2020 schedule while UAB has 2 conference games to be played. If UAB wins their remaining games, they will finish with a conference record of 4-1 and a better record, percentage wise, than Texas San Antonio’s 5-2! This would lead a C-USA Championship Game between Marshall, currently @ 4-0 and overall 7-0, with games left against Rice & @ FIU! So …. if UAB & Marshall win out, there is the C-USA Championship Game!

MAC (Mid-American Conference): Buffalo 4-0 / 4-0 @ Ohio 2-1: TV: 2:30 CBSSN; Favorite: Buffalo -11. Ohio is only a game behind the Bulls in the loss column, with two to play. If they win out, they will finish 4-1, white Buffalo would be @ 5-1, if Bulls beat Akron on the 12th! Not sure how the MAC would handle that; head to head or the better winning percentage to determine divisional winners? More to follow on that tidbit.

MWC (Mountain West Conference): Fresno 3-1 / 3-1 @ Nevada 5-1 / 5-1; TV: 9:30 / FS1; Favorite: Nevada -7.5; Fresno has won 5 of the last 8 in this series. That said, the teams have split the most recent four, with each winning & losing a game on the road! If Nevada wins, they control their path to the MWC Championship game, as they play San Jose (4-0) on 12/12. If Fresno wins they will need Nevada to beat San Jose State, this would leave Fresno & the San Jose State Spartans tied @ 5-1 for the West Division! Boise State will represent the Mountain Division in the MWC Championship!

Pac-12: Washington State 1-1 / 1-1 @ USC 3-0 / 3-0; TV (Sunday): 6:30 / FS1, Favorite: SC -13: USC is in control of the P-12 South Division, a win over WSU and then beat cross town rival, UCLA (currently 2-2), on 12/12 and they’ll finish 5-0. In the North Division, Washington is 3-0 have Stanford this week @ home and then the big one on 12/12, the Huskies travel south to Eugene, to take on the Ducks. Oregon is currently 3-1 and play @ Cal (0-3) this week-end 12/5. If things go according to Hoyle, the winner of the Husky/Duck game, will do battle with the Trojans!

SEC (Southeastern Conference): Texas A&M 6-1 / 6-1 @ Auburn 5-3 / 5-3; TV: 11:00 / ESPN; Favorite: Tx A&M -4.5. A&M still has a shot at the CFP and while unlikely, it is still possible. They have to win out, have Bama beat FL, Clemson pound ND, and if OSU were to miss another game … all bets are in play as to who gets in the CFP! The underdog in the Aggie/Tiger game has won 5 times in the last 7 games! Jimbo (A&M HC) has not beaten Gus (Auburn HC) in this game. Auburn has won 3 in a row, by an average of 9 PPG! Two of Auburn’s three wins have been at College Station! Go figure; as Kyle Field is a tuff place to play!

SBC (Sun Belt Conference) VS an Independent; BYU 0-0 / 9-0 @ Coastal Carolina 9-0 / 9-0; TV: 4:30 / ESPNU: Favorite: BYU -10; This game just came about this week, do to an outbreak of Covid @ Liberty University. BYU is desperate to up-grade their schedule and were more than willing to travel cross country for an opportunity to play their way into a New Years’ Six Bowl! Most college football analysts think Cincinnati (6-0 / 8-0), has the inside track to fill this spot. However, the intriguing element here is that BYU is not a member of the G5 (Group of 5) and can they be awarded a spot to which they have no standing to claim? This will be interesting! & by the way, Game Day is in Conway, SC, home to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers!, for this battle of unbeatens!

And as Always; Enjoy the Games!
