Sully’s CFP: Six Pack of Winners; Week Four

Missouri -3 @ Indiana: These teams have met 10 times … with Indiana leading the series @ 6-2-2. The last time they lined up against one another was in 1992, the Hoosiers won that encounter 20-10! So nothing recent… Indiana comes rolling into the game at 2-1, beating Indiana State, 73-35 & Bowling Green, 42-10, while falling, on the road, to Navy, 41-35. The Tigers enter Indiana’s Memorial Stadium with a 2-0 slate, beating Murray State, 58-14 & Toledo, 38-23. While Indiana has the most impressive win (BGU) their lost to Navy is troubling as one considers the strengths of Missouri when compared to the Midshipmen. Sully’s CFP Game Simulator likes Missouri in six of the eight categories assessed, including scoring 39-35 & turnovers 1.1 to 2.5. Sull’s CFP says: take Mizzou and Give the Hoosiers the 3.

Utah @ BYU-7: The Holy war Cometh! The tern Holy War was coined to depict the cultural differences between the two Utah schools; BYU is owned & operated by the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints while Utah is a public university owned and operated by the State of Utah! The teams have played 94 times with the Utes leading the series 56-34-4. Utah has a current win streak of three, including last year’s, 24-21, victory  at Utah’s Rice Eccles Stadium. BYU rolls into the game @ 1-1, with a somewhat surprising loss to Virginia, 19-16 and an equally to more surprising win over Texas, 40-21.  The Utes head to Provo with a 2-1 record, boasting wins over Utah State, 30-26 & Weber State, 70-7, their lone loss was to Oregon State, in OT, 51-48 this past weekend. Sully’s CFP Game Simulator  the game a tie in the eight categories it used to determine a winner … 4 a piece! The last time the Utes were in Provo, 2011, they won, 54-10, other than that blow out … the games have been close, 2009, 26-23 BYU in OT, 2010, Utes 17-16, & 2012, Utah 24-BYU 21!  Sully’s CFP says BYU wins … but does not cover … Take the Utes and the 7!

San Jose State @ Minnesota -5:  These teams have not met in the past five years. SJSU enters the game with a 1-1 record, beating Sacramento State, 24-0 & while falling to highly regarded Stanford, 34-13 ! Minnesota awaits the Spartans with a 3-0 mark, the Gophers have beaten Las Vegas, 53-21, New Mexico State, 44-21, & Western Illinois, 29-12. While SJSU has a loss, their is no question the best opponent these teams have lined up against is Stanford. Sully’s CFP Game Simulator likes the  Gophers in 6 of the 8 areas measured, including a projected score of, 30-19, in favor of Minnesota.  in a related matter,Jerry Kill, the Gophers’ Head Coach, suffered his fourth seizure since taking over the high pressured job @ Minnesota He has returned to practice and will be on the sideline for Saturday’s game. Sully’s CFP says: take the Golden Gophers @ home and give the 5 points!

Utah State @ USC 6.5: The SC fans are getting creative in their method of communicating their displeasure with Head Coach, Lane Kiffin. They’re painting Kiffin all around LA in designated Fire Lane areas. Pretty cleaver! USC is 2-1 thus far this season and their play has been far from inspiring, beating Hawaii, 30-13, suffering a bad… really bad by SC standards, to Washington State, 10-7, before finally playing a solid game against BC, 35-7! While Utah State is currently 2-1 & coming off its best season in years. Their only loss this year is /was a nail-biter, to in-state rival, Utah, 30-26. The Trojans and Aggies have not play in the past four years. Sully’s CFP Game Simulator likes USU over USC in 5 of the 8 categories. Sorry, not buying it…. SC had over 500 yards vs BC last week, while holding the Eagles to under 200 total yards. Their Back!! Sully’s CFP says: Take the Trojans and give BC the 6.5!

Purdue @ Wisconsin24: Purdue is a hard team to figure as they can be very good one day and really bad the next. Last year they played OSU & ND to the wire… 2 teams that won 24 regular season while experience zero losses. Then give up 44 points to Michigan & Minnesota, 41 to Marshall, 38 to the Badgers, & 58 to Oklahoma State. One never knows what one will get from them, so I would not touch the Badgers & the -24. Purdue lost 42-7 o Cincinnati , struggled big time, with an FCS team, Indiana State, 20-13 and them outplayed ND until to 4th quarter … allowing the Irish tio score 21 points in the final period! Wisconsin … well that is a different matter, they are going to score, score often, and run the ball against this Boiler defense. The over is 47.5 … to low. The Badgers enter the game at 2-1, do to last week’s confusing loss to ASU, 32-30 …. yet, they did begin 2013 with two impressive wins vs inferior talent. In other words, impressive because …  should hammer… & …did hammer! The Badgers can/ may cover the 47.5 by themselves! Look for Wisconsin to pound on an undersized Boilermaker defense with their physical & explosive run game.! Sully’s CFP says, take the over …  & have No Worries!

Kansas State @ Texas -3.5 I am not sure if Mack Brown looks older or just tired. This current version of a Longhorn football team look more more like pretenders than the contenders they have been in days gone by… The Horns have been hammered in consecutive weeks, first by BYU, 40-21 & then Ole Miss, 44-23, after beating New Mexico State, 56-7 on opening day. Kansas State is rebounding from an opening day shocker… North Dakota State beat them, 24-21! Since then they have pounded Louisiana Lafayette, 48-27 & U-Mass 37-7. This is Texas’ last chance to salvage their season,  a loss here and their opportunity to win a Big 12 championship ( if they even have one) will all but vanish. That said, Texas has more talent on their roster then any team on their schedule, at least on paper. So the question is …. do they defend Texas Memorial Stadium, their Coaches’ Job and what little is left of their football identities? Given their opponent this week, a team long on skill and short on athleticism ….. Sully’s CFP says: Take Texas & give Bill Synder’s team the 3’5

Sully’s CFP is currently 9-9 vs the Spread
